Who Is Bernie Oh!?

Civil rights activist, Malcom X, once said "The media's the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that's power. Because they control the minds of the masses."
As a Nigerian-American woman, I recognize that the power of media is far greater than many may acknowledge. I also find myself fortunate in knowing the significance I posses as a contributor to an industry that is consistently shaping the views of the public.
With that being said, I'd like to introduce you to myself and a space where you will get a creative look into who I really am.
My name is Bernie Okoroji, but Bernie Oh! is the name that will ring bells . I was born and raised in Raleigh, NC, where I found and cultivated my love of writing, starting at the age of eight. I was invited to attend a live taping of "The Russ Parr Morning Show," after winning a poetry contest through my local Boys and Girls Club. The poem merged my love of culture, music, and people, which continues to act as a catalyst for my work today.
Writing, marketing, and presenting to the public is my passion; and I am a strong believer in turning passions into goals and goals into realities! While attending The University of North Carolina at Charlotte, I received the fortune of exposure to not only various disciplines, but different people, cultures, and experiences.
Since a young age my parents and I expected that I would become a doctor. After winning various research competitions and gaining multiple honors for my scholarship in the science arena, it wasn't until my junior year in college that I chose to alter my course and focus on the profession that truly makes me happy. It was then that I landed my dream job with Warner Music Group, as the College Marketing Rep for the Charlotte market. Through my role I was able to regularly contribute to the company's blog site, plan and execute strategic marketing for artists on the WMG roster, and create and distribute marketing tools and content to maximize artists exposure.
Since then, I have worked in both business, media, and management roles. Serving as the Executive Blogger for a media site providing entertainment news with over 2,000 engages per day and the assistant to the top midday radio host in the Carolina market, I have ensured that I maintain active and knowledgeable in this field. In addition, I regularly produce freelance writing for major media outlets such as K97.5 (hiphopnc.com) and ImpressYourPeers.com.
I want to use my work as not only a vessel for my talents to shine through, but as a way to impact the lives of underrepresented and less fortunate people like me!
